Doggy Christmas Party, December 2009
Santa couldn't be here in person this year..............
Alan and Sandra
Malcolm
The quality of the fancy dress this year was very high.
A record number of entries on a dry day - what more could we ask? One of our committee members, Tina Melsome suggested that, due to the date, we celebrate Halloween!!! She is now our "Special Events Co-ordinator"!!!
A full car park!!
Val Andrews with Barney "Temelora Cosmos", a Papillon.
With the number of entries and a split Novice class the stay ring was busy for most of the day.
The "Graveyard"
This was the biggest raffle for some time.
Dennis Vessey, the breed judge, with one of the puppy classes.
Due to circumstances beyond our control it recently became necessary to upgrade the toilet facilities at the training ground. This was very hard work involving a hole, a large tank and three tons of stones. Thanks to the usual committee members for their hard work over several days.
Malcolm, Terry, Sandra and Geoff lowering the tank into the hole.
Jim adjusting the position of the tank.
Geoff and Tina (below) dig the trench for the new pipe.
Sandra, Malcolm and Terry shovelling the stone.
The most important person on site!!!!! Shirley with her ever-ready teapot!!!
Since we have owned the Training Ground little has been done to keep the boundary hedges under control and some of them have become very thick, spreading up to 20 feet into the field. This has taken up lots of parking space for our members on Sundays and also the space where we put trade stands on show days. We decided to start early this year while the weeds and brambles had died down.
We were lucky this year that Sandra loaned her tractor and trailer to remove the cuttings rather than the car and camping trailer we used last year. We were also very lucky with the weather but the brambles took their toll on bare arms. We managed to clear about 150 feet of hedge back to the boundary and remove all of the cuttings in about 2 1/2 hours!
Lunch was supplied by the club (the very luxurious cream cakes were supplied by Terry, the trainer!). After a meal and a cup of tea everyone was ready for a full afternoon's training.
Thanks to all the members who gave up their morning to help. This, fortunately, is not one of those Clubs where a few on the committee do all the work! Thanks also to Shirley and Pam for preparing the lunch while everyone was working.
We followed this effort up on the 19th April with work on the opposite side of the field. We cleared some low branches and some Blackthorn bushes so that the tractor and mower can cut right up to the fence. This will give our obedience judges room to park on show days.
It has been many years since the Club has remained closed on a Sunday but this was the scene on Sunday 8th February 2009. One of our members in a 4x4 braved the hill out of Hennock to record this picture of the Training Ground. Hennock had been cut off for 3 days. Only 4x4's and tractors were able to get in and out of the village!
Roy's Retirement. Roy Lewis has been a member of the Club for over 40 years, most of these spent as the obedience trainer at the Plymouth Branch. When the Plymouth Branch was forced to close in 2007 Roy decided that it was time to retire as a trainer. Much to Roy's surprise he was made a Life Member of the Club and presented with a bronze statue of a German Shepherd at the 2007 A.G.M.
